NASPGHAN is pleased to announce the formation of 3 (three) new Committees. The decision to create these committees was reviewed and endorsed by the NASPGHAN Council during the May 18 meeting at DDW 2024. The consensus was that these new committees fill important gaps in NASPGHAN’s organizational structure and contribute to NASPGHAN’s mission and goals as outlined in our strategic plan.

The new Committees are:

Women in Medicine

Mission Statement: The Women in Medicine Committee is dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the field of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, pancreatology and nutrition through advocacy, mentorship, and community building. This committee will seek to understand and address specific opportunities and challenges to professional development of women in pediatric GI. Its formation bolsters NASPGHAN’s goal to be inclusive and supportive of all members in terms of career growth, gender equity, and work-life integration.

Gastroenterology/Immunology/Microbiome (GIM)

Mission Statement: The GIM Committee is dedicated to luminal disorders which are not currently represented in NASPGHAN’s committee structure, by providing a multi-disciplinary approach towards advancing their research, education, and clinical practice. This committee will foster collaborative endeavors and innovative approaches towards improving patient outcomes in gastrointestinal conditions, including but not limited to eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs), food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), celiac disease and Helicobacter pylori. The committee is responsible for session planning at NASPGHAN’s Annual Meeting, advocating for patients with related gastrointestinal conditions, as well as for the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and position statements.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (formally the DEI SIG)

Mission Statement: The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within NASPGHAN. This committee seeks to understand the current state of diversity within NASPGHAN, and to support ethnic, racial, and gender representation at all levels of the society. Specifically, the aim is to ensure NASPGHAN provides a professional development environment that broadly cultivates growth at all career levels, while also encouraging the recruitment of underrepresented minorities (URMs) to our field. The committee’s vision is to ensure our Society stands out as an intentional national and international leader in DEI.

Interested members for committee terms that will begin this November 2024 should submit their applications by July 5 to https://naspghan.secure-platform.com/a/solicitations/113/home.

If you have already applied for a committee this year, this new application will supersede your previously submitted application. Members may only serve on one committee at a time.

We look forward to the important work by these committees.
